Jadilah Guru yang Dapat Dipercaya ^_^

Menggapai Guru yang Akuntabel (dapat dipercaya)
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

When Indonesia could be like that? Hope it will happen soon.
What i see from the picture above is the teacher teaching the student and the parents watching them.
When the teacher teach, we can see that all the students are smile, they are happy and feel comfort with the learning atmosphere. Why? Cause the teacher is not forcing the student. He didn't give pressure to the student. Instead of giving pressure, the teacher giving a freedom to his students. He allow the student to express their creativity, their mind, and their imagination to solve the question (the problem).
The parents, who watch the teaching-learning process, feel assured and will be relieved because they know that their children is happy and not feeling pressured when learning. Because of that, the parents will believe with the teacher.
So, the conclusion is to reach an accountable(credible, trustworthy) teacher, firstly, we as a teacher (future teachers) should make the student happy and feel comfort while learning (free up them to express their own creativity and imagination) in order to make  the student and their parents believe in us.

Hermeneutics of The Iceberg Approach

Hermenetika Pembelajaran Matematika
By : Prof.Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection by : iLania Eka Andari

Hermeneutics cycle is like a longitudinal wave in slinky. It has a start-end point (horizontal phase) and a lowest-highest point (vertical phase).
When we talked about Hermenutics cycle , it remind us with an iceberg approach of learning mathematics.  The horizontal phase (start-end point) is a horizontal mathematics and the vertical phase (lowest-highest point).
Horizontal mathematics is a mathematics that usually found in daily life, such as multiply, adding, divide, substract, etc. And the vertical mathematics is a professional mathematics (Math of the gods - 'matematikanya para dewa' ). From the diagram (that showed the hermeneutics cycle), we can immediately know that vertical math is just for them who really-really expert in math (what i mean is Vertical math not for just anyone). To pass through the horizontal mathematics we just need to goes forward, this is easy isn't it? But to pass through the vertical mathematics it's difficult. We need to going across so much hurdle in order to get the highest point . For people who doesn't really love math, they will end in the lowest point.
But i think, as long as we still learning and learning, eventhough we are not a gods, someday we will able to stand on the highest point (on the top of the iceberg approach).

Apa itu Sofisme?

Sophism
By: Prof.Dr.Marsigit,MA
Reflection by : iLania Eka Andari

Based on what i read in wikipedia.com
Sophism in the modern definition is a specious argument used for deceiving someone. In ancient Greece, sophists were a category of teachers who specialized in using the tools of philosophy and rhetoric for the purpose of teaching arete—excellence, or virtue—predominantly to young statesmen and nobility. The practice of charging money for education and providing wisdom only to those who could pay led to the condemnations made by Socrates, through Plato in his dialogues, as well as Xenophon's Memorabilia. Through works such as these, Sophists were portrayed as "specious" or "deceptive", hence the modern meaning of the term.

A sophism is taken as a specious argument used for deceiving someone. It might be crafted to seem logical while actually being wrong, or it might use difficult words and complicated sentences to intimidate the audience into agreeing, or it might appeal to the audience's prejudices and emotions rather than logic; e.g., raising doubts towards the one asserting, rather than his assertion. The goal of a sophism is often to make the audience believe the writer or speaker to be smarter than he or she actually is; e.g., accusing another of sophistry for using persuasion techniques. There are also several parties who consider sophism as an attitude who argue that truth is relative existence.

Siswa juga bisa mengubah kurikulum. Ya kah?

Forum Tanya Jawab 63: Bagaimana Siswa Bisa Menentukan Kurikulum?
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit,MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

I think the statement that student can change curriculum is not impossible, as long as the government and the teacher willing to open their eyes to the fact that happen. What i mean here is, they (the government and the teacher) should understand that they already enough force the student to doing what they should do. Can't student do what they wanna do? (in this case, what they wanna do is about mathematics. All what i mean here is about learning math ^_^ )
All this time, government and teacher is the one who decide about when the curriculum change and how the curriculum change. They never think about student willing. Whereas the one that underwent the curriculum is the student.
It's better if we use curriculum that facilitate the student to develop their skill, ability, and knowledge, rather than the curriculum that just giving without receiving from student (the student just passive. not active in the learning process).
I think the curriculum that can give a chance to the student to active participate in the learning process is a curriculum that according to what the students want (we all know that student is tend to like or active doing something if that thing is something that they like or they want.)
So, i think it's the way the student can change the curriculum (make the government and teacher change the curriculum become what the student want --> maybe the student can speak up their wish ^_^)

Research say " I have a role in developing math edu "

Peran Penelitian dalam Pengembangan Pendidikan Matematika
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

I'm totally agree with the argument in this article.
The definition of research is the collection, processing, analysis, and presentation of data which is done systematically and objectively to solve a problem or to test a hypothesis to develop general principles. From the definision above, so we can conclude that the way the teacher searching for a new pattern is also a research. It's one of the example of the role of research in developing mathematics education.
Research in developing math education has an important role. As i say before, one of the example is research that doing by the teacher in order to get a new pattern to teach their student. Their teaching pattern is one of the most important factor that determine the success of the teaching that they do.
After they feel they already find a certain pattern to teaching, teacher should not stop to doing a research. They should doing a research again and again,to find the best pattern, so the teaching learning process that happen between teacher and student can become more active, innovative, and be better.

Class Reflection = 1st April 2013

In this meeting there are two activities that we have. The first one is vocabulary test, and the second one is checking the sum of reflection online that we made.
At the vocabulary test, i just get 46 T_T . Urgh.. I think i can get better than that, but why i just get that? Maybe because i didn't study the night before, maybe. In that vocabulary test there are some vocab which have been tested to us, but the other vocab is new vocabulary. One of the vocab that already tested to us, is 'gosong'. When the test is ongoing, i think i remember very clearly that in the test before 'gosong' is 'over cooked'. So, with high confidence i answered 'over cooked'. Unfortunately, when it comes to examine the answer, my answer was wrong because the right one is 'burnt'. I sincerely shocked at that time, why? Why my answer is wrong? Then i open my previous test answer sheet, and i be ashamed directly that time.. Hihi. This so-called man is the place of wrong and forget ^_^
Then goes to the second activity, check the sum of our reflection online. This time i got 16 ( oh 16 or 15, i forgot. Remember, man is a place of wrong and forgot.hehe. So, it's still humane if i forgot my score. But i'm sure it's around 15 untill 16) . Still a low score for me. Although still there are some friends that have lower score than me, but also there are some friends that have higher score than me, and i don't like that fact. Ahaha. Man are never satisfied, right? Yah, but it's my fault. If i want to get high score, i should make a reflection online more. I should more diligent. But sometimes i feel lazy to make reflection. Oh, ilania, please change this habit. Make reflection online is for my own behalf. So i should be more dilligent. Right? And now, when i write this class reflection, my reflection online is already more than 20. Wow. Keep spirit girls. I still have a long way to achieve my target, my target is 100 reflections. Oh, i hope i can achieve that target. Is not impossible right? No. I think it's possible for me. ^_^
I think that’s all. Thank you so much and sorry if there are mistake. ^_^

SBI mengatakan "Aku tidak memenuhi Indikator. Haruskah aku dibubarkan?"

Sekolah Bertaraf Internasional
Pengembangan Sekolah menuju Sekolah Bertaraf Internasional (SBI)
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

After reading this article, now I understand why international schools (SBI) was disbanded. According to the article above, to become SBI schools must fulfilled certain indicators, as mentioned. But, in the reality,  there are some indicators that are not fulfilled by the schools that have been bearing the title of SBI.
The first is the School of SBI should be supported by the components of international standard. One component is the language that used in teaching-learning process. SBI schools should use English (the international language) in any school activity, but in fact, in the process of learning,  they still use Indonesian. Although the language is only used as an interlude,  but it is already changing the essence of the international class itself. If it still wants to use Indonesian, why not just form a bilingual class instead of international class?
The second is to become SBI will require international learning methods. Tendency of international standard method is oriented to student learning with a constructivist approach. But in fact, SBI school students still passive in accepting the lessons/the materials. They seemed to be a loyal listener for those teachers who give the material to the class. Rarely (or even to say almost none) there are teachers that provide the opportunity for students to actively construct knowledge by discussing, presenting and draw conclusions independently. Indeed, many teachers are asking students to discuss and then present the results in front of the class, but in my opinion, the discussion tends to text book discussion.
There are many other indicators that rstill not fulfilled by SBI schools, such as facility development issues, English language skills (both students and teachers), etc..

Children says "Don't Give Me Physical Violence" :'(

Identifikasi Masalah Psikologi Mengajar Matematika, Psikologi Belajar Matematika, dan Psikologi Pembelajaran Matematika
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

The first problem is draw my attention. The influence of the amount of homework in students psychological condition.
Nowadays are getting a lot of kids who do not want and have no desire to go to school. It's not because they are lazy but because there are trigger factors that cause them reluctant to go to school. One of the factor is because the teacher likes to give them so many tasks.
When the teacher gives a lot of assignments, the kids feel they do not have the space and time to play with their friends. They feel that the teachers have take their rights to play. Actually a student's psychology (especially children) is more radical in the sense that there would not be pressure, including pressure from the tasks which is so many.
Unconsciously giving the task too much, has disturbing the children's psychic (or often termed by providing psychological violence to the child). The psychological violence can cause the children tend to hate learning activities conducted in schools, their creativity becomes blocked, decreased learning motivation, and not have the spirit to go to school.
Because the impacts associated with the psychological condition will take quite a long time. Therefore, we as teachers should do not give too many tasks to students. But that does not mean we do not need to give them a task. Give the task appropriately. Do not be too little, but not too much. Thus we do not suppress the students' psychological but we still give them responsibility through tasks that we give.

Belajar Matematika = Belajar Berkarakter \[^_^]/

Artikel Populer : Pendidikan Karakter dalam Pendidikan Matematika
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

Learning mathematics in daily life is not necessarily to develop knowledge that has been acquired, but also can develop character in us.
Almost all people would know that mathematics is a science that deals with a lot of numbers and counting. Math also has a variety of mathematical formulas, ranging from the simplest to the extremely difficult.
When doing counting, we are not enough to rely on memorized the formulas, but also have to know when the formula was used, in order to get the right results.
In the process of calculating and selecting these formulas, unconsciously we are actually in the process of looking for, what are we looking for? as I have mentioned above, the search for an answer.
Seen from the perspective of character education, the process of counting by picking out which exact formula should be used, the process by which we must be careful in operating the numbers and when calculating figures, reflecting that everything must be thought carefully and based on the strong theory, so that what will be produced later is not only a result, but also a quality results that can be justified.
A brief explanation above is a bit obvious example in daily life that mathematics also plays a role in the formation of character.

Children Problems about Math T_T

Problematika Pembelajaran Matematika di SD
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

Of the many Problems Learning Mathematics in Elementary School above, there are a few that caught my eye. That is the second and the ninth problems, "how is our viewpoint of mathematics achievement in elementary school?" and  "how to get rid the perception that math is difficult?"
The first problem. In my opinion, the mathematics achievement in Indonesian's elementary school is still in  'low level'. Ok, i admit that there are some Indonesian's student that succes in Math olympiad, even in International level. But, whether the students in Indonesia just them? only them? No. We can not close our eyes and ears on the fact that besides them,  many children in Indonesia still have difficulty in mathematics, and even it is common knowledge that many children who do not want to learn math. Yeah i know that the definition  of learning achievement (prestasi belajar) is results of the learning effort that show the size of the achieved proficiency in the form of value. However, if the value obtained from the results of cheating, whether it's still learning achievement? i don't think so.  I prefer say that achievement learning is the succes of the learning process rather than the value that we got from the learning process. Cause when we have a good/succes in learning process, we can obtain a good result/good value too. But when we have/got a good value, it's not necessarily cause we have a good learning process, it can also cause a cheating (I do not intend to prejudice, but it's fact that happen in daily life). Therefore, i said that the mathematics learning achievement in Indonesia is still in 'low level'.
The second problem. Different from elementary school children in other countries, elementary school children in Indonesia tend to be afraid and hate towards mathematics.  So, how to get rid the perception that math is difficult? Rather than asking children to memorize that 1/2 is bigger than 1/4 and 1/4 is bigger than 1/5 , is better if we demonstrated with concrete object. Such as we cut pies, apples or other food into halves, fourths, fifths and so on, after that we ask "which one is bigger? Which one is the biggest?" through that experience, children will be easier to understand the material. I think start with explaining math in easy ways like that can help the student to like mathematics more. Slowly, the feeling that math is scary and difficult can disappear from children/student mind when they already like/love math.

Learning is not only happen in class, learning is can also through article or even website (online learning). And this posting is full of good references. Once again i say thank you sir. I hope these references can help me to develop my ability and gain more knowledge. Amin.

Heuristicism? Hermeneutics? - Samakah? ?_?

Heuriticism
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection by : iLania Eka Andari

Based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heuristic , Heuristic refers to experience-based techniques for problem solving, learning, and discovery. Where the exhaustive search is impractical, heuristic methods are used to speed up the process of finding a satisfactory solution; mental shortcuts to ease the cognitive load of making a decision. Examples of this method include using a rule of thumb, an educated guess, an intuitive judgment, or common sense.
I, myself, found the other example of hermeneutics (especially hermeneutics of life), that is translate and to be translated.
We should translate someone or even something in order to life (in this case, especially in order to learning), and at the same time someone will translate us in order they can life. So, it's what we call as to translate and to be translated. We, as an individu, need to translate and to be translated in order have a beautiful life, have a great life.

Oh i think i made a mistake. I'm sorry cause i didn't read it carefully. The title is heuristicism , but i read it as hermeneutics. Oh, it's my fault. I really really sorry about this.
But i think (when i read the definition of heuristicism in wikipedia) it has the same meaning with hermeneutics (it just my opinion). This is actually the same or just me who think that it's same?
Oh i think i got confused. Can somebody explain to me what is the difference? or even it same ?

Hermeneutics of Live = Longitudinal Wave in Slinky ^_^

Hermeneutika Hidup
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

In my opinion, hermeneutics of the life is like a longitudinal wave in slinky.
We go forward from the start point to the end point . in our way to the highest phase in our life (in the hermeneutics of life is drawn as the end point), we going across two parts. The first part is when we came across the low point ( what should i call this point? ehm... in physics it's the lowest amplitude of the longitudinal wave), and the second part is when we came across the up point (in physics it's the upper amplitude of the longitudinal wave).
However it's different with the proverb which say that "our life is such as a spinning wheel. Our lives will continue to spin, sometimes we are in our highest phase, but the other time we are in the lowest phase of our life. We do not always happy, and we do not sad forever."
In that proverbs, we know that it means sometimes we found ease of our life, but in the other time we surely found a hardship. That's the different with the hermeneutics of life concept.
In the hermeneutics life concept, is not we found easiness and hardship, but we are the one who put ourselves at the "lowest" point and the "highest" point. Lowest and highest point that i mean here is not in the true sense. ehm.. how should i explain it?
The real example is translate and to be translated. We should translate someone or even something in order to life (in this case, especially in order to learning), and at the same time someone will translate us in order they can life. So, it's what we call as to translate and to be translated. We, as an individu, need to translate and to be translated in order have a beautiful life, have a great life.
So, that's what is Hermeneutics of Life theorem meaning.

Perubahan Kurikulum? Kenapa Harus

News Update: Koalisi Pendidikan Menolak Kurikulum 2013
Tolak Perubahan Kurikulum Pendidikan

By :  Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection by : iLania Eka Andari

Overall, I'm among those who did not approve the decision to change the curriculum. If you asking why, actually my reason is very simple. Whether you guys (in this case the government) ever asked the students perspective about the change of curriculum? I don't think it ever. So that's my reason.
Looking from the student perspective, the change of curriculum is very unpleasant. Cause they already 'comfort' with the curriculum now, but if the curriculum change they should study again 'from the start'. We all know the reality which can not be denied again that when the curriculum change it will change the material also. That's just can make the student find more difficulity in learning.
Even now, the students are haven't found their comfort zone in learning/study. With that fact, how could the government make changes to the curriculum?
If the government still in their decision to change the curriculum, i think it will end in making the students as a victim here.

ooh.. it's look like there is contradiction in my own comment.
in the fourth line, i said that the students already 'comfort'. but in the eighth line, i said that even now, the students are haven't found their comfort zone.
for some people i think it can be misunderstanding. what i mean in the fourth line is they already comfort with the curriculum now, is because they already in their way to find the best way to study. they tried to find the best method in learning in this kind of curriculum. But, like what i said that when the curriculum change it will change the material also. So, it will be wasteful for them, cause the learning method that they find in this kind of curriculum is maybe not suitable for the new curriculum.
nah, what i mean in the eighth line is even though they already in their way to find the best method in learning, but it doesn't mean that they already found their comfort zone in learning. they maybe already comfort in this curriculum, but it's not merely mean that they also already find their comfort zone or the best method of their learning.
oh... i hope you understand what i mean. it's still little difficult for me to speak out my mind in written language. i hope i can learning more and can be better.

Class Reflection = 25th March 2013

In this meeting, we watched some video again. The tittle of the first video is ‘Do You Believe?’ . ‘Wow’, that’s the word that i can say when watched this video. This video is really awesome. How can a child in that age make a speech that can inspire the other (at least me. I don't know whether all of you feel the inspiration inside the speech, but i totally fall for it).
The first sentence that got me touched is 'I Believe in Me'. 'Wow', again and again came out from my mouth. That boy is very confidence when he say "I Believe in Me" ( i wonder, where his confidence come from?). I can do anything because i believe in me, i can do anything because you believe in me, and everything can be happen when you believe. After hear that, i immediately sing a song from Mariah carrey ft Whitney Huston (Mr. Marsigit, I'm so sorry about this..  i didn't mean to do that, it just come spontaneously, even unconscious)
There can be miracles, When you believe
Though hope is frail, It's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles, You can achieve
When you believe
Somehow you will, You will when you believe
(When You Believe – Mariah Carey ft Whitney Huston)
That i get from this video are we are here cause we believe each other, i believe in you, you believe in me, we believe in them, and they believe in us. We believe so we need, it's not because we need someone so we believe them, but like what i already said, we believe someone so we need them. We need them to believe in us, i need you to believe in me, and you need me to believe in you. I personally feel that when there are someone that believe in me, that person are help me to get who i am today. Because when i believe (whether it to my self, my parents, my family, my friend, and whether to the person who believe in me), i'm sure i can reach a high potential. I know you feel it too, right?
Ok, goes to the second and third video. The title are inverse function and quadratic form. This video is not the type that can give innovation to the others like in the first video (yeah, at least that's in my opinion) . In this video, we talk about inverse function and quadratic forms of course. But that's not my concern, since now we are in english class, so of course we will talk about english that we use there (in the video).
I personally get new vocabulary from this video. Oh yeah  . Should i write down what new vocabulary that i get?  I think now. Not because of anything, but simply because i think if i write down it will be too much. the second video (inverse function) give me an answer about my confusion regarding intersection and interception.  Some people said that 'perpotongan' in english is intersection, but the other people said that 'perpotongan' is interception. I myself think that 'perpotongan' is intersection. And in this video i know that the truth is 'perpotongan' in english is intersection. Oh yeah, i got it right
Besides get a new vocabulary and an answer of my confusion, i also get a question in my mind when i watch the video. We know that both of while and when have the same meaning in indonesian that is 'saat',  but i wonder if in mathematics term / mathematics language is it the same between while and when? In example :
While x=0, then y=1
When x=0, then y=2
Is that two sentence has the same meaning? (is while and when in that case has the same meaning?). Somebody please help me, cause i get confused about this..hehe
Ok, i think that's all about my reflection in the 25th March 2013 meeting. Thank you very much and sorry if there are a mistake. See you

IT Systems are Not a Trap

Mathematics and Language 10
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

I think the statement that adults can only be a trap for the children is true, and it's also true that IT systems are produced by adults. But, it doesn't mean that IT systems can be a trap for the children too. Rather than be a trap, i prefer to say that IT systems is one of the teacher method in order to facilitate the children to learning more. Like what we doing now, it's a proof that IT system can make us (as the student) learn.
In my opinion, the statement that adults can only be a trap for the children mean the way/the method they (the adult) use in learning can be a trap for the student. Why? Because they tend to force their concept, their perspective, their way of understanding, to the children. This is what is meant by 'adults can only be a trap for the children' . Since the method like that just will only turn off the creativity of the students and make them only passively in learning (it is true that adults can only be a trap for the children, right?)

Develop the Teacher Method of Teaching

Mathematics and Language 9
By : Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA
Reflection By : iLania Eka Andari

I totally agree with the statement that teacher should develop their way/their method of teaching. But i think they also need to think about the student's perspective in order to develop their method in a better way. The better way here, i mean the way that not force their own perspective but more facilitating the student to learn. When they (the teacher) also think about the student's perspective at the time when they develop their method, the teacher can understand what the student want.
Develop the teacher method with that way, can produce a result/ way of teaching that not giving the students a receipt or model but to facilitate them to construct their own math/model
